Hahnemann introduced the terms acute, half-acute and chronic miasms and recorded the differences of these infections most accurately. On this
basis he introduced the collective case taking method so that he could discover specific genus remedies that had the power to prevent, abort and
treat the affects of these infectious complaints. On this foundation Hering introduced the nosodes, which are potentized miasms. He made his own
nosodes for several acute miasms as well as half acute miasms like rabies and chronic miasms like psora, tuberculous, sycosis, and syphilis. These remedies also play a great role in preventing, aborting and treating infectious diseases and their affects.
Hahnemann considered the miasma to be a microorganism and the miasmic diseases to be the unresolved affects of infections. The following footnote on page 75 is closely related to aphorisms 5 and 72 of the 5th and 6th editions of the Organon.
"Or have these various, acute, half-spiritual miasms the peculiar characteristic that - after they have penetrated the vital force in the first moment of the contagion (and each one in its own way has produced disease) and then, like parasites, have quickly grown up within it and have usually developed themselves by their peculiar fever, after producing their fruit (the mature cutaneous eruption which is again capable of producing
its miasma) - they again die out and leave the living organism again free to recover?"

This paragraph teaches the difference between the acute and chronic miasms. Acute miasms are rapid in their onset and reach crisis after a
relatively short period of time. Hahnemann notes that this genus of microorganisms is self-limiting so they leave the patient either in convalescence or dead. Patients who do not completely recover from acute miasms usually suffer from the chronic miasms or other chronic states based on maintaining causes or never well since syndromes.
"On the other hand, are not the chronic miasmas disease-parasites which continue to live as long as the man seized by them is alive, and
which have their fruit in the eruption originally produced by them (the itch-pustule, the chancre and the fig-wart, which in turn are capable of infecting others) and which do not die off of themselves like the acute miasmas, but can only be exterminated and annihilated by a counter-infection, by means of the potency of a medicinal disease quite similar to it and stronger than it (the anti-psoric), so that the patient is delivered from them and recovers his health?"

self-limiting like leprosy-psora, TB or syphilis. They are lifelong infections that are caused by microorganisms that do not die off by themselves. They last for the entire life of the person unless cured by Homœopathy. This is the major difference between acute and chronic miasms. One may be "never-well-since" an acute miasm as a sequel but the miasma-parasites die off.
The term, psora, was used by the ancient Greeks to describe a host of skin diseases and their concomitant symptoms. Hahnemann, therefore, did not invent the term but was attempting to bring it up to date for this times. He pointed out that the primary infection of psora was transmitted by certain infectious agents including scabies, herpes and leprosy, boils, pimples, erysipelas , etc. Every carrier of primary psora he mentioned is a form of infectious disease caused by mites, bacteria, fungi and viruses. Hahnemann was well aware that scabies was caused by small mites that burrowed under the skin. It is a mistake to think that Hahnemann equated psora with scabies. Psora was a term Hahnemann used to describe effect of suppressing a greater spectrum of soft tissue infections of the skin and the constitutional sequels that appear on their suppression.
When Hahnemann spoke of disease being a derangement of the vital force he also included a role for causation. In aphorism 11 he said:
"When a person falls ill, it is initially only this spirit-like, autonomic life fore (life principle), every present in the organism, that is mistuned through the dynamic influence of a morbific agent inimical to life."
The ancient Greeks taught that Disease includes a pathogen (morbific agent), ponos (the struggle of the forces of life) and pathos (suffering signs and symptoms). Cause and effect are part of the process, which can included infectious miasms. Hahnemann used the term "half spiritual miasms" which implies they are also "half physical". I would also like to put out that aphorism 11 says disease is "initially" a derangement of the vital force. All natural disease begin with changes in function of the life force that progress to organic pathology. Although the disease-Wesen (essence, being, nature) is invisible its action on the organism can lead to organic pathology. Cure also begins with the correction of function that leads to the reversal of pathology in time. Parasites also have an Esse and Force that may come into conflict with the human Esse and Force if the susceptibility and terrain of the constitution allows for miasmic infection. This is a even handed presentation of vitalism.
PS. I support the idea that viruses can cause certain diseases because of scientific research and clinical observations. I have reviewed many slides produced on electronic microscopes showing the action of viruses in the cells. Nevertheless, their presence in some diseases may be sycophantic rather than solely causative. In some cases, they may be appearing because of the changes in disease terrain as one of the markers of the negative state rather than cause of the state. As to AIDS. IMO, there are some cases of AIDS that do not involve HIV and some cases that do involve HIV. A collapse of the immune system can happen from a number of causes that come together. The Orthodox school often gets carried away with a single linear cause and disease names without looking at the bigger picture which may involve an aetiological constellation and other factors.
Nevertheless, one can use clinical signs and symptoms to spot AIDS patients in whom the HIV is present on laboratory tests. This virus is certainly present in many who have the symptoms of AIDS and is involved in such cases. This becomes painful obvious when a healthy village woman falls to AIDS symptoms because their husband drives a cab in a far off city and visits prostitutes. The husband and wife then both show up with positive HIV tests showing that in these cases their is a relationship between the virus and symptoms. It is fairly easy to spot AIDS patients by the symptoms and in most the virus is present as a marker of the state. There is no solid proof that these cases are not caused by HIV, the virus.

Critics are calling for an audit of the Arizona Board of Homeopathic Medical Examiners
Over the past five years, the board has licensed four doctors convicted of felonies in other states and six others who lost their licenses or were disciplined elsewhere.
Some homeopathic physicians and former board members say there's a lack of proper regulation.
The chairwoman of the state's Senate Health Committee has called for an audit of the board before it faces a ten-year "sunset review" in 2006. The review will determine whether the board will continue, be disbanded, or face reforms.
